Woodland
Woodland is a favorite in the studio. It is probably my most masculine looking color group with lots of rivulets, and runs that flow to fill stampings made while the piece is still soft. It has been my most popular over the last several years.

Woodland is a wood ash type glaze. For millennia potters have used ashes as an ingredient in pottery glazes and the high alkalinity of the ash causes the glaze to pull up into the characteristic runs and drips. This glaze utilizes highly alkaline components to achieve more consistent results. In addition, I have amassed a vast collection of objects to stamp into the moist clay. These depressions are accentuated beautifully by the runny glazes.
Below is a covered casserole that shows both the rivulets and the stampings.
